Lot 610
Rare Plate awarded to William Thorne of the Metropolitan Police force, the Wedgwood plate with signature of the artist on reverse, depicts Inspector William Thorne's warrant card, dated 1868, amongst flowers and a butterfly, 24.5 cm. A similar plate is held by the Metropolitan Police Museum and an accompanying letter from them gives details of William Thornes career. He joined the force in 1868 aged 20, and retired from the force in 1907..Estimate: £ 80 - £120

An important pair of Irish War of Independence medals. Cogad Na Saoirse, General Service Medal 1917-21, 1921-71 Survivors Medal.Awarded to Laurence Dineen.
[General Service Medal with black & orange ribbon, COMRAC clasp, Celtic suspender, EIRE soldier. This medal with clasp was awarded to those taking part in active military operations between the Ireland Easter Uprising of 1916 to the establishment of The Irish Free State in 1921.
Survivors Medal with green, orange & black ribbon, gilt bronze smaller version of the 1921 medal, 1921-71 to reverse. This medal was awarded to those who were alive on the 50th anniversary of the truce
Laurence Dineen was a freedom fighter & was sentenced to jail for his participation in the fight for an independent Ireland.
Prosecution of Michael Walsh, David O'Kelly, Laurence Dineen, Cornelius Keane, Joseph Sheedy, Michael Moroney and Michael O'Connor; possession of revolvers and ammunition; 31st July, 1920; Carryspillane, County Limerick; David O'Kelly found not guilty and released, the remainder were found guilty and sentenced to 1 years imprisonment with hard labour each].
