Young's Auctions

Auctions

Young's Auctions offer a comprehensive range of valuation services across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Our team of valuers have specialist knowledge in their chosen fields such as jewellery, coins and medals, silver and glass together with a wealth of experience in general valuation work.

Home valuations can provide that extra privacy and security for the client and afford the opportunity for the valuer to point out items of value that the client is not aware of. Calling in a valuer before a house clearance can make all the difference.

For assessment visits in the areas of Farnham, Fleet, Farnborough, Guildford, Godalming, Haslemere, Woking, we do not charge for travelling time. If you live further a field may ask you to email us some images before our visit.

If you prefer to visit us in person, items can also be brought to our Farnham saleroom.

Auction appraisal and valuation

Young’s valuers are happy to provide appraisals on all sorts of items, auctions are exciting and results are not always predictable, some items will sell for sums much higher than their guide price. Our aim is for clients to receive friendly and knowledgeable advice whatever the value of their antiques

For items you are considering selling appraisals are free of charge, our valuer will give you a price guide, e.g. £100-150, within which we would expect the item to sell.

High value items and those with intrinsic value can have a reserve price, if the auctioneer does not receive bids at this level the item will remain unsold.

Frequently asked questions on auction valuation

- What is an auction appraisal?

At Young’s Auction House an appraisal is carried out by an experienced valuer who will estimate the auction value of your antiques and jewellery, taking into account past sale results of similar items and their professional judgement of the present market for such items.

- Is it worth me bringing items for appraisal if I am not sure they are valuable?

Bring them in, sometimes the news is not all that was hoped for and on other occasions clients have not realised that they have items of considerable value which are then sold with us at auction.

- Can you say for sure what the hammer price will be?

The short answer is no we cannot be 100% certain how much an item will sell for. However, there is more certainty for auction houses that have online bidding which enables buyers worldwide to bid. Youngs pride themselves on having accurate catalogue descriptions which enables buyers to find and bid for your items

- Are items left for appraisal at the auction house safe?

Yes all items left with us for valuation are kept safely and are fully insured

- Do I get charged storage fees for leaving items at Young's before an auction?

No storage fees are charged before the auction

- How long will it take to value my antiques and jewellery?

In most cases we will be able to give a valuation when we see you, but in some cases, for example in the case of jewellery we may need to test stones or metal, this will take longer. In the case of specialist items further research may be needed. We will always inform you if this is the case.
