CRUISE MEMORABILIA: UNION CASTLE LINE METAL DISPLAY MODEL OF R.M.S. TRANSVAAL CASTLE (LENGTH 107.5 CM APPROX.). LAUNCHED AT CLYDEBANK ON 17/1/1961 AND DELIVERED TO UNION-CASTLE SHIPPING LINE ON 16/12/1961. SHE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST BRITISH BUILT PASSENGER SHIPS TO HAVE A BULBOUS BOW. CONCEIVED AS A 'HOTEL' SHIP, SHE OPERATED WITH ALL PASSENGER ACCOMODATION IN ONE CLASS RATHER THAN THE FIRST AND TOURIST SPLIT OF THE OTHER MAIL SHIPS IN THE FLEET. SHE OPERATED BETWEEN SOUTH AFRICA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM.
